Streaming to Akamai MSL4 is made easy when using Videon products. Because of our integration with Akamai in the HTTP Push output, we make sure that interoperability and stream stability are as reliable as possible for both live and live-to-VOD workflows.
Before setting up you Videon product to stream to Akamai MSL4, make sure you have worked with your Akamai representative to set up and ingest point for the HLS/DASH stream this guide will help set up.
Setting up an HTTP Push stream to Akamai MSL4 will be nearly identical to Configuring EdgeCaster for HTTP Push streaming (HLS/DASH), but with a few differences:
- Instead of choosing Generic HTTP for the HTTP Streaming Providers, you must choose Akamai as there is some magic behind the scenes that ensures interoperability with Akamai MSL4's certification guidelines
- There will be no option for Save Segment Window because Akamai always save the segments uploaded and does not allow HTTP DELETE requests
- The HTTP URLs will be entered in the Primary Publishing URL and (optionally) Backup Publishing URL fields in the Videon interface
- The URLs to be used are simply the Primary Publishing URL and Backup Publishing URL as provided by Akamai in the details of your MSL4 stream, replacing (event_name) with an event name of your choosing
- For example:
- Primary Publishing URL =
p-ep654321.i.akamaientrypoint.net/cmaf/654321/(event_name) - URL to enter into Videon settings =
p-ep654321.i.akamaientrypoint.net/cmaf/654321/MyEvent
- Primary Publishing URL =
- For example:
- The URLs to be used are simply the Primary Publishing URL and Backup Publishing URL as provided by Akamai in the details of your MSL4 stream, replacing (event_name) with an event name of your choosing
With the above differences applied to Configuring EdgeCaster for HTTP Push streaming (HLS/DASH), this should have you set up and streaming with Akamai MSL4!
