In LiveEdge Cloud, users can now check essential network and connection details that go beyond simple online/offline status or output bitrate. The LiveEdge Cloud Networking Information tools help users verify their device’s network connectivity and diagnose connection issues related to streaming outputs. The features “ICMP Ping” and “TCP Connection Check” allow you to test network reachability, confirm host and port accessibility, and monitor connection success, all directly from the Cloud interface.
ICMP Ping
The ICMP Ping command tests the reachability of a hostname or IP address from your LiveEdge device and measures the round-trip time (RTT).
This is useful for confirming that the device can communicate with your streaming destination or another network host.
How to Use:
In LiveEdge Cloud, navigate to your device.
Select the COMMANDS menu.
Choose ICMP Ping.
Enter a hostname or IP address (for example,
google.com). Select PING TARGET.
ICMP Ping returns with ping results (rtt).
TCP Connection Check
The TCP Connection Check tool tests whether your LiveEdge device can establish a TCP handshake with a specified host and port.
Important Note:
This check confirms network-level connectivity only. It does not validate application-level protocols such as RTMP or SRT. For example, while you can confirm that a device can reach a host on port 80 (HTTP), this does not guarantee that an RTMP or SRT stream will successfully publish or play.
When is this useful?
Troubleshooting general network reachability (e.g., confirming if a firewall or routing issue is blocking a port).
Validating that a destination host is accessible on a given port before configuring your encoder outputs.
Tip: If you need to confirm RTMP or SRT publishing readiness, use protocol-specific tests or perform a short test stream. TCP checks alone cannot guarantee protocol-level success.
How to Use:
In LiveEdge Cloud, open your device’s COMMANDS menu.
Select TCP Connection Check.
Enter the hostname (for example,
google.com) and port number. Select CHECK TARGET.
Window returns with connection status.
Note: These checks are on-demand commands and do not affect your saved encoder or network configurations.
