Videon devices, including LiveEdge Node and LiveEdge Max, do not support HDCP-protected content as a valid input source.
What is HDCP?
HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. As Google defines it:
"HDCP is a digital copy protection system that prevents the unauthorized copying of digital media content."
This protection is often applied to HDMI sources like Blu-ray players, DVD players, gaming consoles, and streaming devices to ensure that protected content cannot be copied or transmitted to unauthorized systems.
Behavior of Videon Devices with HDCP-Protected Content
If an HDMI source that supplies HDCP-protected content is plugged into either a LiveEdge Node or LiveEdge Max, the protected content will be detected but not processed. The following behaviors will be observed:
1. Local Web UI
-
The input resolution from the HDCP-protected source may be detected and displayed correctly in the Videon device's local web UI.
-
However, in the AV Input Preview, the screen will show a solid black or blue screen with no audio. This indicates that the content is HDCP-protected and therefore not supported by the Videon device.
2. LiveEdge Cloud
-
If you are using LiveEdge Cloud, the symptoms will be the same as those seen in the local web UI. The input resolution may be shown as valid, but the AV Input Preview will display a solid black or blue screen with no audio.
Conclusion
Videon devices are designed to reject HDCP-protected content to comply with digital content protection rules. If you are seeing a black or blue screen in your AV Input Preview, verify whether your HDMI source is HDCP-protected. In such cases, you will need to use a non-HDCP-protected source for your Videon device to function correctly.
