Multicast
Setting up the Videon device as an encoder
- Connect to the Videon device
- Navigate to Encoder Control in the Streaming Dashboard
- Click on the Multicast output under Outputs
- Select a valid Video and Audio Source
- Under the Multicast Output
- Choose rtp or udp based on Multicast streaming tips
- Enter an available Multicast IP Address that will host the stream and playback into the IP Address field
- Valid Multicast addresses can be found here
- Enter the port to stream on into the Port field (more information on this also in Multicast streaming tips)
- Enter the Time to Live (TTL) - see more information on this here
- Click the On/Off switch next to Multicast Output to ON
- Click Save
A common decoder used in testing is VLC Media Player. Once installed on your computer, simply navigate to "Media > Open Network Stream..." and enter [rtp or udp]://multicast_address:port (i.e. rtp://234.0.0.2:1234) , click Play, and you should see your stream!
