What Videon product are you using?
- LiveEdge® Max
- LiveEdge® Node/EdgeCaster operating on LiveEdge® OS V8.5 or higher
- Node/EdgeCaster operating on OS V8.4 or lower
Max or Node/EdgeCaster operating on OS V8.5 or higher:
NOTE: The following applies only to Node/EdgeCaster on software V8.5 or higher when assigned to Automatic (DHCP) network configuration:
If an Node/EdgeCaster on software version V8.5 or greater is booted on a network without a DHCP server, the Node/EdgeCaster will fallback to a Link Local IP address (169.254.1.X - 169.254.254.X). This behavior will also be the same if the device fails to renew a DHCP lease.
To access an Node/EdgeCaster with a Link Local IP address:
- On Windows, plug your computer’s Ethernet adapter directly into the Node/EdgeCaster’s Ethernet adapter and use the Videon Discovery app to detect the IP address assigned. From here, the network configuration settings can be adjusted as necessary under the Device Settings page > System on the web user interface of the Node/EdgeCaster.
- On MacOS, plug your computer’s Ethernet adapter directly into the Node/EdgeCaster’s Ethernet adapter and use the Videon Discovery app to detect the IP address assigned. From here, the network configuration settings can be adjusted as necessary under the Device Settings page > System on the web user interface of the Node/EdgeCaster.
- On Linux, plug your computer’s Ethernet adapter directly into the Node/EdgeCaster’s Ethernet adapter and navigate the following steps on your computer:
- Navigate to Settings > System
- Create a new wired connection by clicking the + for Wired
- Set a name on the Identity tab for your new connection (Ex: Link Local)
- Select the IPv4 tab
- Instead of “Automatic (DHCP)” select the radio button for Link-Local Only
- Click Add
- Make sure the new Link Local connection is selected under Wired
- Open up a fresh instance of the Videon Discovery app to discover the Link Local IP address that the Node/EdgeCaster has adopted
- From here, the network configuration settings can be adjusted as necessary under the Device Settings page > System on the web user interface of the Node/EdgeCaster
- Once a static IP is set on the Node/EdgeCaster, you can then disconnect from the Link Local connection on your computer and select your original Wired connection again
Node/EdgeCasters on OS V8.4 and lower:
NOTE: The following applies only to Node/EdgeCaster on software V8.4 or lower when assigned to Automatic (DHCP) network configuration:
If a Videon product is not assigned an IP through static configuration or a DHCP server, it will default to 192.168.1.100.
To connect to the Videon device in this state please follow the steps below in this order:
- Set the network information on the computer to the following
- IP Address: 192.168.1.102
- Netmask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 192.168.1.1
- DNS: 8.8.8.8

-
- Power up or reboot the Videon device
- Wait up to 3 minutes then enter 192.168.1.100 into a Chrome browser
