Streaming RTMP to Zoom

Step 1: Create and Configure Your Zoom Event

  1. Go to events.zoom.us
  2. Click Create Event
  3. Fill in the required event details
  4. Click Save and Continue
  5. Publish the event

Step 2: Enable RTMP Streaming in Zoom

  1. Open your published event
  2. Click Edit
  3. Navigate to In-Session Webinar Settings

Configure Stream Key

  1. Locate Saved Stream Keys
    • If needed, create a new stream key
    • (Recommended) Use a saved key so you can reuse it across events without reconfiguring your encoder

Enable RTMP Input

  1. Go to In-Session → Live Stream
  2. Enable Incoming RTMP
  3. Select your desired stream key:
    • Saved stream key (persistent), or
    • One-time key (changes per event)

Step 3: Configure Video Encoder on Videon

  1. Open your Videon encoder (device UI or cloud interface)
  2. Create or edit a video encoder

Recommended Settings (Zoom)

  • Codec: H.264
  • Resolution:
    • 1080p30 (recommended), or
    • 720p30
  • If your input is higher (e.g., 1080p60):
    • Enable frame rate limiting to 30 fps
  • Bitrate:
    • ~6 Mbps for 1080p30
  • Rate Control:
    • Use Strict Constant Bitrate (CBR)
    • (Important for Zoom stream health monitoring)

Step 4: Configure Audio Encoder

  1. Create an audio encoder using the same input source

Recommended Settings (Zoom)

  • Audio bitrate:
    • 128 kbps (stereo), or
    • 256 kbps total
  • Channels: Stereo

Step 5: Create RTMP Output on Videon

  1. Create a new RTMP output
  2. Assign:
    • The video encoder you created
    • The audio encoder you created

Enter Stream Destination

  1. In Zoom:
    • Copy the Stream URL

  2. In Videon:

    • Paste the Stream URL

    • Append:

      /<stream_key>

    Example:

    rtmp://zoom-endpoint-url/live/<stream_key>
  3. Enable the RTMP output
  4. Click Save

Step 6: Start the Stream in Zoom

Start Practice Session

  1. In Zoom Events, click Start Practice Session

View Incoming Stream

  1. In the session controls:
    • Click More
    • Select Incoming Live Stream
  2. Confirm your RTMP feed appears

Go Live

  1. Click Send Live
  2. Confirm the stream is now live to viewers

Step 7: Verify Viewer Experience

  1. Open the event Join Link (from Registration tab)
  2. Join as a participant
  3. Start the webinar if not already started

Note:

  • Zoom displays the spotlighted feed to viewers
  • Your RTMP stream must be spotlighted to be visible

Stopping the Stream

  • To stop sending from Videon:
    • Disable or stop the RTMP output
  • In Zoom:
    • Stopping the incoming stream will revert to:
      • Webcam and microphone inputs (if enabled)

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use a saved stream key to avoid reconfiguring for every event
  • Stick to 30 fps even if your source is 60 fps
  • Use strict CBR to ensure stable stream health reporting in Zoom
  • Always test using a practice session before going live
  • Confirm your stream is spotlighted, or viewers won’t see it
