Using a Generic RTMPS setup to stream to YouTube is a little different than a standard RTMP stream. This article will provide step-by-step instructions to set up your YouTube stream using Generic RTMP with a persistent stream key.

How to Stream to YouTube Using Generic RTMP
Step 1: Create a Live Stream in YouTube
- Log in to your YouTube account.
- Click “+ Create“ on top right of the page, then select “Go Live“.
It will take you to the live stream page.
Step 2: Set Up Your Videon Device
- Open the Videon Web UI or LiveEdge Cloud in your browser.
- If you are on the Web UI, navigate to Encoder Control > Outputs. If you are on LiveEdge Cloud, go to your device under Devices → All devices tab in the left, then select Configuration > Outputs.
- Select an existing RTMP output profile, or create one using “Add Profile“ (Web UI) or “Create Output“ (LiveEdge Cloud), then select RTMP.
- Copy the Stream URL and Stream key from YouTube livesteam page, and paste them into the URL field on the Videon device with a forward slash (/) in between them, like so: [Stream URL]/[Stream key]
- Ensure RTMP output is enabled.
- Click Save.
Step 3: Start Streaming
- Toggle on the RTMP output.
- Click Save.
- Check that the status updates to Streaming.
- On your YouTube livestream page, confirm that the stream is Active.
Step 4: Watch Your Stream
- To view your live stream, go to YouTube's Live Dashboard. The stream can also be accessed through its link if it’s set to public.
- Verify video and audio quality.
