If you are experiencing issues installing the Videon Discovery App on macOS because it is an uncertified app with Gatekeeper, this article will describe a workaround.
MacOS has a technology called Gatekeeper that will check an app the first time you open it and make sure it is registered with Apple. The intent is to safeguard you from potentially malicious apps. However, this measure also prevents you from using perfectly safe apps that have not been registered yet and older apps that were created before the requirement to register. On newer versions of macOS, a warning dialog will pop up when you try to open the Discovery App, and it will not allow you to continue because our app has not been registered yet.
Fortunately, there is still a way to open it while we work to release a newer registered version of the Discovery App:
- Locate the Discovery App in Finder (This will not work from Launchpad).
- Command-click the Discovery App and click Open in the shortcut menu.
- The warning dialog pops up and will now contain an Open button. Click Open.
- The Discovery App will open. It will be automatically saved as an exception, and you will not have to repeat this process next time.
