Overview
This article explains how to manually set the system time on Max and Node in the new V12.1.0 update when the system time is incorrect or NTP is unavailable. Correct system time is important because time drift can affect device connectivity, cloud communication, logs, certificates, and other time-sensitive services.
Manual time setting does not disable NTP or automatic time synchronization.
Key benefits
Correct system time directly from the Web UI.
Helps resolve NTP-related time issues.
Supports browser-based time entry.
Reduce the need for workaround methods, such as moving the device to another network to correct the time.
Supported products
All products must be running software version V12.1.0 or later to use this feature.
- Products: LiveEdge® Max, LiveEdge® Max 2, EZ Max, EZ Max 2, LiveEdge® Node, EZ Node
Requirements
The device is a supported Max or Node device.
The device is running software version V12.1.0.
Web UI is accessible.
The browser time is accurate if you plan to use Get browser time.
Table of contents
Set the system time manually
Open the Web UI.
Navigate to the Advanced tab on the top right corner.
Scroll down to Manually set device system time.
-
Choose one of the following options:
Select Get device time to view the current device system time. Change the system time manually using the required format.
Select Get browser time to populate the time field with the current time from your browser.
Click Set device time to save.
Review the pop-up warning message.
Click Yes to apply the new time.
Verify the new time by clicking Get device time.
The required time format is YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ss.sssZ. This format uses the UTC time zone. Improper time setup may cause major issues.
Example:
2026-06-09T19:19:12.349Z
Important behavior
Manual time setting is intended to correct the current device system time. It does not disable NTP or other automatic time synchronization behavior.
If NTP is reachable and working, the device may update the system time automatically after a manual change. It may also be reset after a reboot.
Common use cases
Use Case |
Summary |
| NTP is unavailable | Set the system time manually when the device cannot reach an NTP server. |
| System time is out of sync | Correct time drift that may affect connectivity, logs, certificates, or cloud communication. |
| Isolated network setup | Set the system time without changing the network. |
| Troubleshooting time-related issues | Easy access to system time while investigating connectivity or service issues. |
Troubleshooting
Symptom |
Likely cause |
Resolution |
| The system time changes back after a while | The device reached a valid NTP server and updated automatically. | This is expected behavior. If issues arise, check the browser time and the system time first to see if they match. |
| The system time changes after a reboot | The device reset the time during startup or reconnected to NTP. | Recheck the system time after reboot and confirm the network time source. |
| The saved time is incorrect | The browser time or manually entered time may be incorrect. | Confirm the browser time, then set the system time again. |
| Connectivity issues continue after correcting the system time | The issue may not be caused only by incorrect system time. | Click Get device time and verify that the system time is correct. Then check network settings, DNS, NTP, and cloud connectivity. |
FAQ
Q: How do I view the system time?
A: Navigate to Advanced in the Web UI, then click Get device time.
Q: Does setting the system time manually disable NTP?
A: No. Manual time setting does not disable NTP. If an NTP server is reachable and functional, the device may update the system time automatically.
Q: Why did the time change back after I set it manually?
A: The device may have reached a valid NTP server, or the time is reset after reboot.
Q: Why is the time not accurate on either the device or my browser?
A: The device uses the UTC time zone. Depending on your location, that time may be different from your local time zone.
