After enabling password protection, you may find that the browser used to make the change continues opening the Web UI without displaying the Supervisor sign-in page.
In most cases, this is expected behavior. The browser session used to enable password protection may still be signed in, even though authentication is now required for new sessions.
Follow the steps below to refresh the browser and confirm that password protection is working correctly.
Note: Why this happens. The Web UI checks authentication requirements when the page loads. If password protection was enabled while the page was already open, that browser session may continue using its existing authenticated state until the page is refreshed or the session ends.
As a result, the browser used to enable password protection may continue opening the dashboard without displaying the sign-in page. This is expected behavior and does not necessarily indicate a problem with the setting.
How this differs from earlier software versions. Previous versions of the Web UI used the browser's built-in authentication prompt. The current Supervisor Web UI uses a dedicated sign-in page instead.
Although the experience looks different, refreshing the page is still the quickest way to ensure the browser re-checks the device's authentication requirements.
Step 1: Reload the Web UI
Force the tab to reload so the app re-checks authentication:
- Windows / Linux: press Ctrl + F5 (or Ctrl + Shift + R).
- macOS: press Cmd + Shift + R.
If you are not signed in on that browser, the Web UI now shows the Supervisor sign-in page instead of the dashboard. Enter your credentials to continue.
Screenshot 1: After a reload, an unauthenticated browser lands on the Supervisor sign-in page.
Step 2: Confirm protection from a fresh session
The browser you used to turn authentication on may still be signed in, so it will not prompt you even after a reload. To prove that protection is active, open the Web UI in a session that is not already signed in:
- Open a private / incognito window and browse to http://<device-ip>:8080, or
- Open the Web UI from another computer on the network.
Either method should display the Supervisor sign-in page. If it does, password protection has been enabled successfully and is working as expected.
Tip: If the browser you originally used to enable password protection remains signed in, it may continue opening the dashboard without prompting for credentials. To test the sign-in experience in that browser, select Logout from the account menu in the top-right corner, then reload the page.
Step 3: If no browser ever prompts you
If a private browsing window or a second computer can access the dashboard without being prompted to sign in, the authentication setting may not have been saved successfully. Check the following:
- Go to Platform > Settings > Supervisor and open the Access section. Confirm that Require authentication is switched on, then select Save. The setting does not apply until it is saved.
- If the Require authentication toggle is enabled but unavailable for editing, Secure Mode is enforcing the setting automatically. This is expected behavior because Secure Mode requires authentication to remain enabled.
- Make sure you are loading the Supervisor UI at http://<device-ip>:8080 and not a stale bookmark that points somewhere else.
- Reload again after saving (Step 1), then re-test from a fresh session (Step 2).
Screenshot 2: Access section of the Supervisor tab. Require authentication must be on and saved; when Secure Mode is on it forces this toggle and greys it out.
